This year's cup favourites Colaiste Iognaid celebrated their 12th Connacht Senior Schools crown to deny the holders Sligo Grammar at the Galway Sportsground yesterday.

Cathaoirleach launches second plan for sport and physical activity in Mayo

Mayo Sports Partnership’s second strategic plan for sport and physical activity, Promoting an Active Mayo, was launched by the cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Michael Burke along with the board of Mayo Sports Partnership and its chairman Henry Kenny at the superbly appointed new Joe Langan Sportshall at Davitt College Castlebar recently. The strategic plan covers the time frame 2010—2014 and forms an integral part of the work of the Sports Partnership. Building on the successful implementation of the first plan 2006-2009 it will guide and focus the work of the sports partnership, outline the partnership’s vision for sport/physical activity in the county, sets down goals and objectives over the next four years, and identifies partners with which such goals and objectives can be achieved. Four strategic themes have been identified in the strategic plan and they are increasing participation, training and education, facilities and amenities and, communication and co-ordination. The strategic plan was the result of a six month process which commenced in April 2010 with extensive consultations undertaken with those with an interest or remit in sports provision in the county.
